Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA to Host 74th Annual Convention in Richmond Virginia
Nation's Oldest Muslim Convention Brings Interfaith Dialogue and Community Service to Richmond, Virginia
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA is set to hold its 74th Jalsa Salana (Annual Convention) in Richmond, Virginia from June 28-30, 2024. This historic event, taking place for the first time in Richmond, will be held at the Greater Richmond Convention Center.
As America’s longest-running Muslim conference, the Jalsa Salana brings together people of all faiths for spiritual enrichment and interfaith dialogue. This year’s convention takes on special significance amidst ongoing global conflicts, with the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community’s motto “Love for All, Hatred for None” underpinning the event’s focus on peace and understanding.
The three-day event will feature speeches on spirituality and human rights, with appearances by dignitaries expressing solidarity with the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. A key focus will be addressing the current crisis in the Middle East and exploring peacebuilding strategies.
Highlight: Special Session on Building Sustainable Peace
A highlight of this year’s convention is a special session entitled “Building a Sustainable Peace: Saving Humanity Amidst Grave Conflict.” This public session will take place on Saturday afternoon at 4 PM, followed by a reception at 5 PM. The Mayor of Richmond and several other leaders from Virginia will deliver remarks during this critical conversation. All fellow Americans are invited to attend and participate in this important dialogue. Please register here.
Addressing Global Conflicts
This year’s Jalsa Salana comes at a time when the world is grappling with severe conflicts, particularly in the Middle East. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA, through its “Voices for Peace” initiative, will use this platform to address the ongoing crisis in Israel and Palestine, advocating for an immediate ceasefire, the release of all hostages, and a path to lasting peace.
Amjad Mahmood Khan, National Secretary of Public Affairs for Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA, stated, “The Jalsa Salana provides a unique platform to bring together government officials, diplomats, diverse leaders, scholars, and community members to engage in a public dialogue and explore practical strategies for achieving lasting peace and reconciliation.”
Community Service Initiative: Jalsa Cares
In conjunction with the convention, the community is launching “Jalsa Cares” – a community service initiative in Richmond. On Thursday, June 27th, members will partner with local organizations to conduct neighborhood clean-ups and donate food and blood.
The launch of “Jalsa Cares” will be announced at a public event on June 27th at 11am at Pony Pasture Park. Speakers will include representatives from the City of Richmond, RVA Community Fridges, American Red Cross, and Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA.
This combination of spiritual discourse, peacebuilding dialogue, and community service exemplifies the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community’s commitment to fostering positive social change and interfaith understanding. The public is invited to attend both the “Jalsa Cares” launch, the special session on sustainable peace, and the entire Jalsa Salana convention to participate in this unique gathering promoting peace and unity.
