In 30+ Cities, Muslims Invite America to the Iftar Table in a Call for Peace

As global conflicts deepen, Muslims across the U.S. bring communities together over Iftar dinners to stand for peace, understanding, and human dignity

[Silver Spring, MD] — During the month of Ramadan, Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA organized Interfaith Iftar dinners in more than 30 cities across the country, welcoming over 2,000 guests from diverse faiths and backgrounds. The annual effort, part of the national campaign Voices for Peace, brought together religious leaders, civic officials, and local neighbors to share a meal, build relationships, and foster mutual understanding.

More than 200 public officials—including members of U.S. Congress, mayors, council members, local Senate representatives, interfaith leaders, and law enforcement representatives—attended the events, which were held in mosques and community halls from the East Coast to the West. This included seven Members of the U.S. House of Representatives:

  • Rep. Sean Casten (D-Illinois)
  • Rep. Sara Jacobs (D-California)
  • Rep. Glenn Grothman (R-Wisconsin)
  • Rep. Joe Olszewski (D-Maryland)
  • Rep. Kannan Subramanyan (D-Virginia)
  • Rep. Sam Liccardo (D-California)
  • Rep. Heather Morrison (D-Minnesota)

“This month reminds us to look beyond ourselves—to serve others, uphold justice, and live out the values of peace and compassion,” said Amjad Mahmood Khan, the National Secretary of Public Affairs for Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA. “These Iftar dinners are our way of living out that mission with our fellow Americans. Our goal is simple: to open our doors, share our traditions, and stand with others who seek peace in our communities and around the world.”

The holy month of Ramadan is observed by Muslims worldwide through fasting, prayer, reflection, and acts of charity. Breaking the fast each evening—known as Iftar—offers a unique opportunity to invite others into this sacred moment and reflect together on shared values.

This year’s events were anchored by the theme Voices for Peace, an ongoing campaign by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community to raise moral awareness about the need for peaceful resolutions to conflict and a collective commitment to the sanctity of all human life. The campaign has gained renewed urgency in light of ongoing humanitarian crises, including the devastating toll of the conflict in Gaza.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA has hosted Interfaith Iftars for over a decade, with this year marking one of the most widely attended series of events to date.

About the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community:

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is a dynamic, reformist and fast-growing international movement within Islam. Founded in 1889, the Community spans 213 countries with tens of millions of members. Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA, established in 1920, is the oldest American-Muslim organization.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is the only Islamic organization to believe that the long- awaited messiah has come in the person of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (1835-1908) of Qadian, India. Ahmad claimed to be the metaphorical second coming of Jesus of Nazareth and the divine guide, whose advent was foretold by the Prophet of Islam, Muhammad. The Community believes that God sent Ahmad, like Jesus, to end religious wars, condemn bloodshed and reinstitute morality, justice and peace. Ahmad’s advent has brought about an unprecedented era of Islamic revival and moderation. He divested Muslims of fanatical beliefs and practices by vigorously championing Islam’s true and essential teachings.
