International Body Recognizes Persecution Faced by Ahmadi Muslims

Ahmadiyya Muslim Community calls for religious freedom for all

SILVER SPRING, MD—March 1, 2022— Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA, the oldest Muslim organization in the United States, welcomes the statement published by the International Religious Freedom of Belief Alliance (IRFBA) that highlights the persecution faced by Ahmadi Muslims in various countries across the world.

The persecution of any religious community contravenes Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which declares that everyone has the right to their own beliefs and to have and manifest a religion in worship and practical observance. In several countries, governments deny Ahmadi Muslims the right to freely practice their Islamic faith. The situation has particularly deteriorated over the past 50 years, with Ahmadi Muslims facing discrimination in every sphere of life. Ahmadi Muslims have been imprisoned and murdered, their mosques have been demolished or sealed, and even their graves have been desecrated – all due to their faith. Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA calls upon the governments of all nations to grant Ahmadi Muslim and all other religious communities full and equal rights as citizens of their country. This is the only pathway to true social harmony and peace.

About the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community:
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is a dynamic, reformist and fast-growing international movement within Islam. Founded in 1889, the Community spans 213 countries with tens of millions of members. Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA, established in 1920, is the oldest American-Muslim organization.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is the only Islamic organization to believe that the long-awaited messiah has come in the person of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (1835-1908) of Qadian, India. Ahmad claimed to be the metaphorical second coming of Jesus of Nazareth and the divine guide, whose advent was foretold by the Prophet of Islam, Muhammad. The Community believes that God sent Ahmad, like Jesus, to end religious wars, condemn bloodshed and reinstitute morality, justice and peace. Ahmad’s advent has brought about an unprecedented era of Islamic revival and moderation. He divested Muslims of fanatical beliefs and practices by vigorously championing Islam’s true and essential teachings.
