National Interfaith Iftar Initiative Gathers “Voices for Peace”
Mosques in 30 cities host Interfaith Iftar programs urging for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas
In recognition of the shared significance this month holds for Jews, Christians, and Muslims, Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA is, once again, hosting Interfaith Iftars around the country, all focused on the theme of “Voices for Peace.” As Jews commemorate Purim, Christians commemorate Holy Week and Easter, and Muslims commemorate Ramadan, it offers a wonderful opportunity for people of faith to come together in respect, friendship and solidarity. This year, Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA aims to bring communities together to echo the calls for peace in the world under the title “Voices for Peace.”
The focus of these Interfaith Iftar dinners is to amplify the voices calling for peace and, in particular, a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, including a long-term peaceful resolution with a shared commitment to peace, justice, and human dignity. With world leaders not doing their part to de-escalate the conflict and protect human lives, the Voices for Peace Interfaith Iftar provides a grassroots initiative for Americans to come together in respect and friendship to raise the voices calling for an end to violence and a commitment to peace.
“The Head of the worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, His Holiness Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, has repeatedly and unequivocally condemned the killing of innocent civilians and urged all world powers to concentrate their efforts to de-escalate the conflict and work towards sustained peace underpinned by justice,” said Amjad Mahmood Khan, the National Secretary of Public Affairs for Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA. “Through these Ramadan Interfaith Iftar events around the country, we hope to build interfaith models for peace and reconciliation within our respective communities.”
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community globally has maintained that the actions of Hamas on October 7th were completely against the teachings of Islam and must be condemned. Its Khalifa (global Head of the community) has cited the Quran as evidence for why the attack was reprehensible. At the same time, the Community maintains that the response of Israel has exceeded all limits by killing over 31,000 innocent Palestinian men, women and children with millions more suffering. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community believes Israel must end its aggressive war on Gaza, and the hostages under Hamas’ control must be released and returned.
About the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community:
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is a dynamic, reformist and fast-growing international movement within Islam. Founded in 1889, the Community spans 213 countries with tens of millions of members. Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA, established in 1920, is the oldestAmerican-Muslim organization.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is the only Islamic organization to believe that the long- awaited messiah has come in the person of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (1835-1908) of Qadian, India. Ahmad claimed to be the metaphorical second coming of Jesus of Nazareth and the divine guide, whose advent was foretold by the Prophet of Islam, Muhammad. The Community believes that God sent Ahmad, like Jesus, to end religious wars, condemn bloodshed and reinstitute morality, justice and peace. Ahmad’s advent has brought about an unprecedented era of Islamic revival and moderation. He divested Muslims of fanatical beliefs and practices by vigorously championing Islam’s true and essential teachings.
