National Ramadan Open Mosque Day Goes Virtual

American Muslims host Open Mosque Interfaith Iftars in over 30 U.S. cities

SILVER SPRING, MD—April 27, 2021—The 3rd Annual “Open Mosque” Ramadan initiative returns in 2021 with Interfaith Iftar events being hosted in over 30 cities across the country during the first weekend of May. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA is making its annual initiative virtual to ensure Muslims and their neighbors can continue to come together in friendship, prayer and support.

At a time of rising tensions and increased injustices spreading across our country, including a rise in anti-Asian hate crimes, these Interfaith Virtual Iftars seek to heal the nation through the power of prayer and open dialogue.

“For the second consecutive year, we fast amidst a global pandemic, with a heightened awareness of the struggles many American families across the country must endure,” said Amjad Mahmood Khan, National Director of Public Affairs for Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA. “Ramadan is a blessed month of fervent prayers and spiritual self-reflection but it’s also a time to serve our communities. For this reason, we open our Iftars to Americans of all faiths and traditions. Hate and division can only be overcome through love and unity.”

Each Iftar will feature remarks from faith and community leaders. Interviews with national and local leadership can be arranged.

About the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community:

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is a dynamic, reformist and fast-growing international movement within Islam. Founded in 1889, the Community spans 213 countries with tens of millions of members. Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA, established in 1920, is the oldest American-Muslim organization.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is the only Islamic organization to believe that the long- awaited messiah has come in the person of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (1835-1908) of Qadian, India. Ahmad claimed to be the metaphorical second coming of Jesus of Nazareth and the divine guide, whose advent was foretold by the Prophet of Islam, Muhammad. The Community believes that God sent Ahmad, like Jesus, to end religious wars, condemn bloodshed and reinstitute morality, justice and peace. Ahmad’s advent has brought about an unprecedented era of Islamic revival and moderation. He divested Muslims of fanatical beliefs and practices by vigorously championing Islam’s true and essential teachings.
